Lotus Tearoom Layouts

I have gotten really into gardening lately, and one of my ongoing endeavors is growing lotus (nelumbo lutea, the American lotus, specifically). When one of my seeds finally sprouted, I was naturally very excited, and it also happened to remind me of a fanfic I had read, called Under the Willow Trees, Lotuses Blossom by ao3 user keisei. This in turn inspired me to make a lotus tearoom Pocket Camp layout. In this post, I will be sharing that with you, as well as some snapshots inspired by the fic itself.

The Layout

First things first, here is the campsite layout in design view mode, as well as a very zoomed out snapshot where you can see almost everything.

Here are the terrain settings:

  • Back: snowy garden
  • Middle: elegant old town
  • Front: elegant old town
  • Sky: mirror lake

The items used come from the following cookies:

  • Sylvana’s old town cookie: the estate buildings, the front wall of the courtyard, and the front gate to the courtyard. I think these items fit the aesthetic of a rustic estate on the fringes of the cultivation world.
  • Chester’s tearoom cookie: for the counter, hanging lotus lamps, and tables outside the gate. I used this cookie because it has a lotus theme.
  • Midge’s storybook cookie: plum trees on the right side. The fic mentions there being plum and pear trees near the estate.
  • Shino’s shrine cookie: the camellia shrine lion-dog statues used in the front wall of the courtyard. The fic mentions there being statues when Jiang Cheng and Xuan Meng arrive at the abandoned estate.

And the following series:

  • Lily pond: the lotus pond. Duh.
  • Haunted garden: the haunted well near the pond where Xuan Meng hangs out in the fic.
  • Noiseless ninja fortress: the side walls of the courtyard.
  • Lunar lookout: the inner courtyard seating (fresh foliage platform table and seats) and estate siding (green shoji partition).
  • Autumn orchard: the pear tree arbor. There is enough room in the layout to put two of these if you have them, but I only have the one.

And last but not least, the following special furniture:

  • Wisp’s willow tree. If you don’t have this and don’t want to splash out 100 leaf tickets, the willow from the haunted garden series will also work.

Anything not explicitly mentioned on this list either comes from the standard catalog or can be replaced with other items (e.g. the boat and various rock items).

Does this count as fanart?

Because this layout was inspired by a fic, I picked three animal characters to represent the fic characters in my snapshots. It’s my first time trying something like this, but I had fun with it and think they came out pretty nicely!

Starring

  • Del the robot alligator (top) as Xuan Meng, a black-scaled dragon. His gray coloring is dark enough to pass as black to my eyes, and there’s not any better options for a black dragon.
  • Bob the lazy cat (bottom left) as Jiang Cheng, retired leader of the Yunmeng Jiang sect.
  • Alli the snooty alligator (bottom right) as Qin Yu, an azure-scaled dragon.
  • Player character as an extra. (Not pictured above.)

Snapshots

This first set is all based on things that happen in the fic!

Clockwise from top left:

  • Jiang Cheng serves a happy customer (player character dressed in period-typical clothes with a period-atypical bubble tea).
  • Qin Yu rests in bed during a flare-up of an old illness.
  • Xuan Meng brings back rare flowers for Qin Yu’s medicine.
  • Qin Yu runs away with a snack.

This next set is not based on fic events, but shows off the campsite during the golden hour.

  • Left: Jiang Cheng serves player character dressed as a fox spirit.
  • Right: Player character (still as fox spirit) greets Xuan Meng who is hanging out in the well. Wisp drifts in the foreground of the image.

And here is one that shows the lotus/lily pond at night, also not a scene from the fic:

The scene shows Xuan Meng sitting on a rock (river rock from the creek cooldown series) as Qin Yu goes night fishing and Jiang Cheng looks for something in the well. Wisp is looking at Qin Yu.

Cabin layout

I also made a cabin tearoom layout that has a lotus theme!

Just look at all that tea.

The fanfic that inspired this post is still a WIP, but I like to imagine that someday, Jiang Cheng’s former sect/disciples get wind of the fact that he has taken up restaurant entrepreneurship and convince him to set up a franchise back in Lotus Pier. If so, maybe it would look like this!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll join me for whatever I come up with next!
